The Safety Data Sheet (SDS / MSDS) is a standard document containing comprehensive information on the safe use, storage and disposal of chemical products. Prepared under the EU GHS/CLP regulation, these sheets consist of 16 sections; section 1 identifies the product, section 2 covers hazard classification, and section 8 defines personal protective equipment requirements.
Before using a chemical product, read Section 3 (composition / information on ingredients) and Section 11 (toxicological information) of the SDS carefully. The effects of the product on skin, eyes and the respiratory tract as well as first aid procedures must be clearly understood. Keeping a current SDS for every chemical at the workplace is a legal requirement.
Section 7 (handling and storage) should be reviewed for storage conditions. Not storing acids and bases in the same cabinet, keeping flammable substances in flame-free environments and disposing of expired products through proper waste management are basic rules. Sharing all of this information with employees and following annual SDS updates directly affects team safety.
