Microfiber cleaning cloths have a much higher absorbency and are less likely to scratch surfaces than traditional cotton cloths. However, incorrect use and washing habits can quickly eliminate these advantages.
The most common mistake during use is using the same cloth on more than one surface. A color-coding system solves this problem: a red cloth is reserved only for toilets and sinks, yellow for patient rooms or dirty areas, blue for offices and general surfaces, and green for kitchens and food preparation areas. After each use the cloth should be sent to the washing machine and must never be wrung out and reused.
Washing conditions determine the life of a microfiber cloth. A 60°C program provides sufficient hygiene, while 90°C damages the fibers in the short term. Fabric softener must never be used; softener destroys the electrostatic charge of the fibers and reduces dust-holding capacity. Bleach should be applied only to white cloths and only occasionally. With proper care, a quality microfiber cloth can withstand 300-500 wash cycles.
